F-1 International Students and Online Courses
Although COVID-19 updates mandate UHCL’s temporary transition to online classes, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has informed the international community that F-1 International Students will not be in violation of their visa status for taking part in this period of exclusive virtual instruction. At UHCL we remain committed to providing the best possible level of service to our international community during this time.
Returning to Campus After Potential COVID-19 Exposure
For students who may have come in contact with COVID-19, provided you have documentation from a medical professional, you are entitled to a medical reduced course load. For international students outside the United States, we will be able to provide a deferred program start date for your next active semester.
The primary resource for information on all biological events is the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). For questions regarding your international status, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 281-283-2740.
International Students Coronavirus Memo
University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) has been closely following the public health circumstance regarding the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). The safety and health of UHCL's students, faculty, administrators and staff are the top concern for the university. The new virus has been a focus of attention since it first emerged, and International Admissions and Programs continues to monitor, plan and respond.
Please note the current accommodations administered for current and incoming international students:
Current F-1 International Students
International Admissions and Student Services must approve all UHCL international travel requests. Please report to the office, email OIAP@uhcl.edu or call 281-283-2740 for more information on the travel process.
*If recently traveled to affected regions based on the CDC, please complete the attached Self Report Form and submit clearance from your primary care physician for clearance to International Admissions and Programs, as we are working closely with Health Services.
USCIS Policy allows international students with the ability to receive a medical reduced course load in the event you receive the appropriate documentation from your medical provider that is conducive with the immigration policy. Please e-mail email@example.com for additional information on receiving a medical reduced course load.
Newly Admitted/Prospective F-1 International Students
International Admissions and Student Services would like to provide the following options for newly admitted and prospective F-1 International Students:
- We will provide online course options until you have the ability to travel inside of the United States.
- We will defer your attendance by providing an updated I-20 with new program start and end dates.
Please contact our office by email at OIAP@uhcl.edu or call 218-283-2740 if you are interested in the above options for attendance.
The campus is encouraging the community to view continually updated information on travel on the International Admissions and Programs website, to review CDC and UH System guidance, and to follow the CDC and U.S. Department of State recommendations for travel.
