On April 10th, 2020, UHCL signed and submitted the Funding Certification and Agreement
for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. UHCL will use 50% of the funds received
from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HERF) grants to help impacted students.
UHCL has received $2,777,685 to directly assist eligible students.
Eligibility to receive HERF funds was based on students determined to be eligible for Title IV funds and not being exclusively enrolled in online classes. Students are determined to be Title IV eligible based on the submission of the 2019-2020 FAFSA application and all required documentation. In order to receive funds, a student must be enrolled at the time of requesting funds.
UHCL sent a survey on April 29th, 2020 to 4,239 students that were eligible at the time to receive a $300 award from the HERF funds. Through this first cycle UHCL awarded $726,000 to 2,420 students certifying they incurred an expense of at least $300 due to the disruption of campus from the coronavirus. The survey was closed on May 5th, 2020. Students who submitted the survey were awarded within 48 hours of applying.
UHCL has also made available an application for students who missed the opportunity to apply for a $300 award, or who may be experiencing expenses greater than $300. Visit the Dean of Students online for application details. Students should review the application and submit the completed form directly to the Office of Student Financial Aid.
