Cory Scanes is a senior research associate with the Environmental Institute of Houston at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He completed his M.S. in aquatic resources and B.S. in biology at Texas State University.
Scanes has an assortment of experience in aquatic ecology and fish behavior, and specializes in freshwater fishes. His previous work focused on habitat associations of spring-associated fishes, specifically the federally-listed fountain darter (Etheostoma fonticola), in the Comal River in New Braunfels, Texas. Before studying biology, Scanes worked as a sport-fishing guide in Bristol Bay, Alaska. He enjoys fishing, kayaking, and backpacking.
