Academic coaching is an academic support program to help students develop core academic skills for success at UHCL. These skills include
- - time/task management
- - note taking
- - effective reading strategies
- - test taking strategies
- - public speaking
- - organization
Academic coaches develop a plan of study with students and use content material in the student’s classes to support skill development. Academic coaches carry a case load of students with whom they typically meet weekly.
Coaches often work with confidential information and must adhere to FERPA guidelines.
Qualifications or Preferences
A candidate who does not meet the following criteria will not be considered and will not receive a response. The candidate must
- - be an exceptionally strong upper-level (Junior or senior) undergraduate or graduate student.
- - have a a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- - have completed at least 2 semesters at UHCL.
The academic coach must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work with a diverse student population with varied levels of academic skills.
Paid training and support throughout the semester is provided.

- Mon - Fri: anytime 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Fri: anytime 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Sat: Closed
- Sun: anytime 1-6 p.m.
