Monday, October 7

Community Service Connection

Bayou Building, Atrium II

Interested in getting involved with Community Service opportunities? Community Service Connection is a service fair that will allow students to see some of the local options for ways to get involved in the community through volunteering. Non-profit agencies will be able to speak on what they do and how students can help.  Opportunities include volunteers for special events, volunteers for ongoing needs, internships and other opportunities.

Training Astronauts for Space Travel, Virtually

UHCL Pearland & TMC
3-4 p.m.

If you’ve ever wondered what is like to train for space travel, come to learn what it takes from former Astronaut Greg Chamitoff and ex-Chief Engineer Evelyn Miralles from NASA. Although astronauts go through thousands of hours of training before taking off to space, some training include ‘virtual components’ that resemble the real world and cannot be replicated on Earth!

Thank a Tutor

Stop by this event to say thank you to UHCL tutors from the Math Center, Student Success Center and Writing Center. Event will include snacks, food and an opportunity to relax and take a break from studying for midterms. Different games, music, coloring stations and more will be available - don’t miss this part of Spirit Week!

I Heart UHCL Day is an event to showcase your school spirit and pride. Through fun activities hosted by our registered student organizations and campus departments, snacks, and exciting games; become enchanted with UHCL spirit and traditions.  Participating in the UHCL Spirit Contest?  Winners will be announced at this exciting event for the UHCL community.

National Coming Out Day

Student Services and Classroom Building, Lobby

National Coming Out Day has been recognized annually on October 11 since 1988. It serves as a day to recognize and celebrate the coming out of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) individuals. Stop by Student Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’s table to pick up some fun LGBTQ+ swag, information about resources for the LGBTQ+ community, and to sign the closet door, a metaphorical representation of coming out!

UHCL: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Happy Birthday UHCL! Join us as past, current and brand new members of our faculty share stories of their service to UHCL, starting from the day the university opened its door in 1974 to 1,069 students and 60 faculties, until today. Revisit their journey through the past along with them as they remember the highlights and challenges the university has met and overcome over the last 45 years. They'll also share their vision for the university for the decades to come, as we continue together on our path of growth, success and excellence.

Who doesn’t want free breakfast and an awesome movie? Hawk Spirit & Traditions Council and the Campus Activities Board have partnered to serve a late night breakfast and show “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” in Hunter Hall.

A professional speaker will discuss proper business etiquette practices and dining etiquette during a four-course meal. Guests will learn about manners, place settings and general table conversation topics. Vegetarian meals are available upon request. For other dietary requests, please contact our office.
