A Snapshot of Serbia: Faculty and Student Photography from the University of Arts in Belgrade

Jan. 23 - March 27, 2014

In conjunction with the 2014 FotoFest International Biennial, the UHCL ARt Gallery displayed works from photography students and professors of the Faculty of Applied Arts and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. Belgrade's University of the Arts is a member of UHCL's International Art Consortium. First organized by UHCL Professor of Art Sandria Hu in 2003, the goal of the consortium is to foster international exchanges of arts faculty and art exhibitions to promote cultural awareness among member schools. Curated by Galveston Arts Center curator Clint Willour, works selected for the exhibition ranged from landscapes and portraiture to carefully arranged photographic installations. Some of the works are untouched, while others have been digitally altered to offer new meanings to the captured subject. The exhibition offered a glimpse into what is relevant today to artists working and living in Serbia.
