The times we are drawn in and engage as online voyeurs in the personal moments of those we barely know are the inspiration for McFadden's art.
While one's search on Google, "likes," checking in, or writing a posts quickly pass, the resulting digital footprint of the author's identity and personality are much more permanent. In his exhibition at the UHCL Art Gallery, Houston-born and Lexington, Kentucky-based artist Jonathan McFadden creates a site-specific installation using text and imagery taken from his social media feeds, exploring the theme of surveillance within these platforms. The photographic prints and installation work he creates from the appropriated imagery reinforce the permanence of the source material.
Jonathan McFadden: Let Me Be Part of Your Search History is organized by the University of Houston-Clear Lake Art Gallery and is made possible through the generosity of Art Colony Association, producer of the Bayou City Art Festivals. Any person needing an accommodation for a disability to participate in this program should contact the UHCL Art Gallery at 281-283-2060 or email@example.com at least one week before the event to arrange for the accommodation.
