Bilingual Counseling Certification in Counseling Education
Become certified to use your bilingual skills to render counseling assistance to clients that speak different languages. Although the State Board for Educator Certification does not have a separate specialized certification to prepare bilingual candidates to work with English Language Learners, University of Houston-Clear Lake has developed a program tailored to train counselors who are bilingual to work with this population.
Help Multicultural Populations Overcome Barriers
Successful completion of this specialized certification will prepare students to work
with English Language Learners. This program will follow the standard school counseling
sequence plus an additional six hours. Individuals who complete this program will
be eligible to apply for school counseling certification from the State Board for
Educator Certification and receive a University of Houston-Clear Lake Bilingual Counselor
certificate. The UHCL Bilingual Counselor certificate is not a state certificate.
