College Credit for Heroes

You learned a lot while serving your country.
Why not get credit for it?

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) awarded a grant in the amount of $198,154 to the University of Houston-Clear Lake through its College Credit for Heroes (CCH) program, a statewide effort designed to maximize the award of college credit to veterans and service members for their military experience.

At the University of Houston-Clear Lake, we are developing a standardized process for Veteran and Active-Duty Service Members to be able to utilize their military training credits towards select bachelor's degrees. This would place students on a fast track to completing a degree and elevate them in their next career.

The program's goal is to eliminate obstacles in a student's pursuit to attain licensing, certification, accreditation and degree awards. CCH is designed to recognize the knowledge and skills gained by military service members and to award college credit for military training, enabling veterans to re-enter the workforce more easily. Each participating institution retains the right to determine applicability to specific degrees. The University of Houston-Clear Lake is a partner institution in the CCH Program, and as a participating Texas university in the CCH program agrees to formalize a sustainable evaluation process to accept training credits recommended through the ACE Military Guide System where appropriate. This process will be formalized in year one, with the goal of launching the process and the official evaluation of the training credits during the admission phase starting Fall 2024.

The grant is for a two-year period, and began on August 1, 2023. Please check back for updates.
