Message from President Ira K. Blake
We have many reasons to celebrate this year. Our campuses are teeming with students, we opened our first on-campus residence hall – and we begin our 45th year of service to the families, industries and communities of the Gulf Coast region.
UH-Clear Lake was created to serve the educational and research needs of NASA, which brought many new families into the area, spawned new businesses and created economic engines that fueled our communities, our state and nation.
From Day One, UHCL has been the solution: training engineers, scientists, astronauts, educators, counselors, accountants, managers, civic leaders and others who helped build this amazing, thriving, diverse corner of America.
As we honor our past, acknowledge the present, and prepare for the future, I want you to be reminded of why we're here—for our students. Forty-five years later, our students have the opportunity to create environmental, economic and social sustainability and resiliency, using the knowledge, creativity, critical-thinking skills and ethics they will develop here by our instruction and care.
This site will continue to grow over the next year, and we're inviting all Hawks—past and present—to share fond memories and photos of UHCL by visiting our "share your story" page.
I look forward to celebrating with all of you.
Ira K. Blake, Ph.D.
