Founded
Omicron Delta Kappa was founded at Washington and Lee University in Virginia in 1914, and was admitted to the Association of College Honor Societies in 1930. There are circles at 275 colleges and universities. The UH-Clear Lake Circle was chartered in March 1984.
Purpose
The purpose of ODK is to recognize students, faculty, and administration at UHCL who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and scholarship. ODK acknowledges and encourages achievement in scholarship, athletics, social service, religious activities, campus government, journalism, speech, mass media, and the creative and performing arts.
Membership Eligibility
Students must demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities on campus and in the community and achieve a GPA in the top 35% of the school (typically 3.3 GPA for undergraduates and 3.8 GPA for graduates). These numbers may change from semester to semester and be either higher or lower depending on school GPA. Students are not eligible to apply until after their first semester at UHCL. Dates for Application for membership and deadlines will be announced early each fall and spring semester.
UHCL faculty and staff are eligible for induction into ODK during the spring semester only. Current members select new members based on criteria established by National guidelines.
All prospective members will be notified if they meet the criteria and will be invited to join. Lifetime membership dues are $96 which includes the ODK key (pictured above), pin and cetificate. The fee is $78 if the candidate does not want to purchase the key.
Induction Ceremony
Inductions are usually held late each fall and spring semester. Omicron Delta Kappa is also registered as a UHCL student organization. Candidates inducted into ODK become eligible for scholarships as well as other benefits awarded from ODK Nationals.
