This program is a collaboration between the Master's program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake and the Doctoral program at the University of Houston. UH will award the PhD and UHCL will support the effort through courses and research opportunities offered at its campus. Select faculty at UHCL hold joint appointments and can advise PhD Dissertation work. The result is a unique program that allows students to complete a PhD in Physics in the Clear Lake Area. All students are strongly encouraged to apply to both the UH and UHCL physics programs before beginning graduate level course-work. This gives students the most options for completing a graduate degree in physics.
Physics Master of Science
The graduate plan in Physics leads to the master of science (MS). This program prepares students for doctoral work and advanced research in Physics, Astronomy, Space Science, and related fields. This program also expands the knowledge base of practicing engineers. Students in this program gain better problem-solving abilities and increase their knowledge of Astronomy, Orbital Mechanics, Relativity, or Plasma Physics. The physics program gives students a deeper understanding of the essential science used in many engineering disciplines including the space industry. Any student potentially interested in completing a PhD in Physics should apply to both UHCL and UH before beginning graduate level coursework.
