The Texas Associate Director of Freshwater oversees all aspects of protection, science, stewardship and community relations for a multi-faceted state-wide freshwater conservation program that includes partnership development and the conservation of priority aquifer, spring, stream, and river habitats across Texas. Provides strategic leadership and support for TNC's freshwater conservation planning work and establishes overall aquatic conservation priorities for the Texas Chapter. Supplies technical and program support to Conservancy field operations. Serves as the Chapter's principle freshwater contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community. Additionally the position works with other Chapter staff on freshwater and agriculture public policy initiatives at the statewide and basin-specific levels as they relate to the conservation of freshwater biodiversity and the health of Texas bays and estuaries. The Associate Director will also take the lead on identifying needs and securing resources needed to successfully implement the program's freshwater conservation strategies.

PHENOSCAPE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW Vertebrate Morphology and Bioinformatics
We are seeking a scientist with training in comparative vertebrate anatomy to participate in the Phenoscape informatics initiative (https://phenoscape.org) to render morphological data computable and interoperable with genetic data. The successful candidate will: 1) lead data curation and ontology development for early living and extinct vertebrates (fishes) and amphibians as part of a team comprised of scientists and software developers, and 2) conduct large-scale, data driven evo-devo research on the store of phenotypic and genetic data in the knowledgebase (kb.phenoscape.org).
Data Specialist Position: Dauphin Island Sea Labe
The Dauphin Island Sea Lab proposes to hire a full-time, 12 month, Data Specialist to perform the following functions and achieve the goals enumerated in the Statement of work:
Minimum Requirements: B.A degree in Biology, Earth Science or a related field. Experience with metadata creation preferred. Knowledge of relational database concepts. Be able to maintain tables and to query database. Be skillful at SQL database, Microsoft Access. Knowledge of one or more programming languages (VB Script, Cold Fusion, PHP, C). Must be detail oriented. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Be able to work well in a collegial relationship with faculty, be flexible, and highly motivated.
Functions: Collects research data sets from faculty; assembles metadata information of data sets; writes metadata using FGDC compliant tools (such as MERMAid on National Coastal Data Development Center web site); submits metadata to NCDDC; has the opportunity to work with and guide faculty and staff to create metadata records; will be an integral part of bringing valuable input for a lab wide project that will house research data and metadata records for Dauphin Island Sea Lab; creates interface to allow easy access to these data items.

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the District 2 Leader, the Landscape Conservation Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementation of conservation activities on private lands in the Panhandle. Involves developing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring habitat improvement and restoration activities that are partially funded through a cooperative agreement between Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Works directly with private land owners/managers, state and federal agencies, Non-Government Organization (NGO), and others in the development of conservation projects for terrestrial and migratory wildlife species in the Texas Panhandle portion of the Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative. Responsible for completing reports of conservation activities and accomplishments. Works under general direction with extensive latitude for use of initiative and independent judgement. Complies with all Agency, Division, and branch rules, regulations, and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned.
